In this culinary class for kids, students will learn basic cooking techniques including how to use kitchen tools, how to read a recipe, and how to keep their area clean all taught in a small group setting. Students will be able to enjoy a sample of their culinary creation during class. Recipes may include dairy, grain, nuts, eggs, meat, and spices. All supplies and ingredients included. In this class, we will learn math skills through playing games with our peers. The games will mainly focus on numeracy and basic addition and subtraction fluency. We will use dice, game boards, manipulatives, base ten blocks, board games, white boards, and more. Lessons will include a mini lesson, introduction to the math game, and time to play. I will provide a 3-5 sentence description of weekly lessons can be applied to learning logs and goals for those participating in virtual school programs.

In this session of Intro to Art, students will learn about a variety of artists and the inspiration that ties them together. For example, did you know that the artist Van Gogh was highly influenced by Japanese wood block prints. Japanese nfluence on western artist can still be seen today. Students will model their art after the artists they study.

In this class we will explore the world of living things. We will learn about the plant and animal kingdoms, adaptations, life cycles, cellular structures, microorganisms, genetics/DNA and more! Students will have the opportunity to do small dissection labs, but can opt out of those, if you choose. We will do hands-on lab days at least once or twice a month, as we work through the lessons, and I will provide optional work to take home. I will provide each student a binder for keeping class materials together. Students should bring a notebook for note taking, which can be kept in their binder.

Two disclaimers for this class: We will be talking very broadly and briefly about reproduction. This will only cover the fact that there are two kinds (asexual and sexual), and the mechanics of sexual reproduction will not be discussed. Secondly, as I know it is a contention for many in the homeschool community, evolution will not be brought up. We will deal with the here and now, so as to allow you to decide for yourselves how you want to teach that topic to your children.

In Phonics class we will discuss and engage in hands on activities that cover short vowels, blending and segmenting consonant-vowel-consonant words, digraphs (th, sh, ch, wh), initial and final blends, word families, and more. We will use hands on activities, white boards, and learn phonics games as well. Students will learn varying strategies for putting sounds together and taking them apart to enhance their reading and writing skills. Each class includes a mini lesson, activity, and a reflection/checking for understanding. In this class we will explore the history of our great state of Idaho! Students will learn all about how the North West came to be part of the US territories, how and when Idaho gained statehood. We will also hear stories from the early settlers and from the Oregon Trail, and about the native people who lived here long ago, and are still here today! We will use A Rendezvous With Idaho History as a template curriculum, although I am adding from other resources as well. Most class times will also include some kind of hands on craft or activity to go along with the lesson. At least once a month I will send home optional worksheets that go along with what we are learning. I hope to schedule a time we can go to the Idaho History Museum in Boise, as a class, towards the end of the semester.

This class will take students on a trip around the world! We will be learning some basic geography, as well as “visiting” a new country each week. We will learn about the country’s history, culture, food, animals, climate, and more! Class times will also include a fun craft or activity to go along with what we are learning. We will “travel” by continent, learning about places in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, and even Antarctica! I will provide students with a binder or folder we will use to build a travel book, to keep track of the places we visit.

ItemCreative writing is an artistic and very personal expression. To create a story or poem takes imagination, creativity, and introspection. In this creative writing class, students will practice creative writing through prompts, instruction time and will be given time to work on a lengthy story, short story, or poetry. Students will learn how to use details, descriptors, and the five senses to add interest to a story. description

In this class we will explore the Arctic and 7 continents, along with an animal from each of them. We will learn about geography, maps, and cover at least two of the continents and animals per month through a mini lesson and read aloud story. Lessons are varied and may include an art component, a writing component, and hands on activities. I will provide a 3-5 sentence description of weekly lessons can be applied toward learning logs and goals for those participating in virtual school programs.
